Kudos to the Zach S. Henderson Library at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA for including FundingFactory’s cartridge and electronics recycling program in their Green Initiative!

Here’s everything the library is doing to keep their carbon footprint low: (from YouTube)

  • Recycling office paper, colored paper, aluminum cans, plastic (PET) bottles in the bins provided by Georgia Southern. More information on what goes where.
  • Collecting used or outdated cell phones and used toner cartridges (both inkjet and laser). Cartridges are sent to the FundingFactory. From there cartridges are returned to accepting manufacturers for recycling. Used or outdated cell phones are also sent to FundingFactory for recycling.
  • Recycling corrugated cardboard that is not reused
  • Reusing styrofoam peanuts and other packaging to send out Interlibrary Loan materials
  • Gift books that are given to the Library but are not added to the Library’s collection are given another life. At 25 cents for a paperback & 50 cents for a hardcover, they fit everyone’s budget. Come shop the bookshelves opposite the Circulation Desk.
  • Collecting old eye glasses for the Lion’s club program (box at library exit).
  • Bringing usable paper (such as outdated forms or other material printed on one side) to Eagle Print Shop to have them made into scratch paper pads
  • “repurposed” scratch paper is available at the service desks for patrons
  • Collecting plastic supermarket bags to give to patrons to cover books when it’s raining
  • Purchasing collections materials dealing with timely environmental issues. See A Selected Guide to Information Sources on ENVIRONMENT (prepared by Henderson Library librarians)
  • Setting up annual Earth Day exhibits
  • Sponsoring an annual “Art from Found Objects” workshop for Earth Day.
  • LPTOne: Printing Management software cuts down on accidental print jobs and unnecessary duplicate printing.
